Jon Hansen is a fifth-generation South Dakotan, devoted husband, father of six, and a steadfast conservative dedicated to serving the people of South Dakota.

Born in Yankton and raised in Dell Rapids, Jon’s early life was marked by personal challenges, including the loss of his father at a young age. These experiences instilled in him a deep sense of resilience and commitment to family values. He worked various local jobs during his youth, fostering a strong work ethic, connection to his community and a deep appreciation for small businesses.

Jon married his high school sweetheart, Sheila, a farm girl from rural Moody County. Their shared experiences in agriculture have deepened Jon’s appreciation for South Dakota’s farming and ranching communities. Together, they are raising six children—William, Garret, Lily, Jude, Hope, and Samuel—instilling in them the same values of faith, family, and freedom.

An accomplished musician, Jon worked his way through college performing live music. He earned degrees in Business Administration from Southeast Technical Institute, Business Management from the University of Sioux Falls, and a Law Degree from the University of South Dakota, graduating in the top 10% of his class.

Jon’s political career began in 2010 when he was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives for District 25. He has since served as Majority Whip, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Speaker Pro Tempore, and currently as Speaker of the House. His leadership has been instrumental in passing legislation that upholds conservative principles and protects individual liberties.

Demonstrating his ability to mobilize support and resources, Jon co-founded the Life Defense Fund to oppose extreme abortion measures. Under his leadership, the organization raised over $1 million, with more than 90% of contributions coming from within South Dakota, showcasing his strong in-state support and fundraising capabilities.

Jon has been a vocal advocate against eminent domain abuses, particularly concerning the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline project. He has championed laws expanding educational choice, protecting religious freedoms, and ensuring government transparency and accountability.

Jon’s commitment to conservative values is reflected in his consistent high ratings from organizations such as the NRA, South Dakota Right to Life, and Family Voice. As an active member of St. Mary Parish in Dell Rapids, he continues to serve his community both spiritually and civically.

With a vision for a South Dakota where families thrive, property taxes are reduced, and the state’s heritage is preserved, Jon Hansen, alongside running mate Karla Lems, is dedicated to leading with integrity and putting the people of South Dakota first.

Faith. Family. Freedom. South Dakota Will Lead the Way.
