Hansen-Lems 2026 Campaign Officially Launches at Sioux Falls Rally
Faith. Family. Freedom. South Dakota Will Lead the Way.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — On Thursday evening, April 24, Speaker of the South Dakota House Jon Hansen and Speaker Pro Tempore Karla Lems officially launched their 2026 gubernatorial campaign at a rally held at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance in Sioux Falls. The event drew more than 500 supporters, including property rights advocates, election integrity activists, over a dozen Republican lawmakers, and numerous members of the press.
“Grassroots patriots from all across the great state of South Dakota are standing up and we are saying in record numbers, ‘No more corruption, no more waste and abuse, no more attacks on our land and our liberties and our way of life,'” Hansen declared to the enthusiastic crowd.
Hansen, a Dell Rapids attorney and current House Speaker, is seeking the Republican nomination for governor. Lems, a business owner from Canton and the first woman to serve as Speaker Pro Tempore, joins him as the candidate for lieutenant governor.
The Hansen-Lems platform emphasizes:
- Protecting Property Rights: Opposing eminent domain for projects like liquid carbon dioxide pipelines.
- Fiscal Responsibility: Reducing state government spending and eliminating corporate welfare.
- Educational Choice: Implementing education choice grants for alternative and private schooling.
- Defending Traditional Values: Issuing executive orders to define gender terms and counteract progressive policies.
“We are committed to restoring trust in government and ensuring that South Dakota continues to lead the way,” Lems stated.
